TRADITIONAL TRIBAL ART FROM NAGALAND

 

 

 

NF: Morung Sculpture. Wood. H: 50”. 19th to early 20th century. Lainong Naga, Nagaland (India/Burma border). Very rare and large scale full figure cut from a wall panel from the interior of the ruling clan’s ritual house (Morung). The carving depicts a victorious warrior stomping on his victim. The victor is over sized, strong, proud, & handsome, the victim is childlike, weak, and ugly. Additional detailed images are available on request.
