dt2: Basket/Mat Tool. Hardwood, metal. L: 7.25". Mid 20th century? Kayanic Dayak complex, Borneo Island, Indonesia. Complete tool for weaving rattan baskets and mats with abstract dragon motifs (Aso). There are letters on one side, that probably represents a name (K FAN SAKAN?) and on the other side, a date which appears to be March 24th, 1970. It is possible this is the date of manufacture, but it may represent a date of a gift or exchange, as they appear to be scratched in afterwards. |
