3286: Ritual Canopy "Kandaure".

Toraja culture. Sulawesi Island, Indonesia.
Glass seed beads, trade cloth. Full L: 49" (124.5 cm), w/o fringe L: 17" (43.2 cm), Flat W: 13" (33 cm). Early 20th century.
Ritual beaded piece often displayed on a pole as a canopy or worn over the backs of female dancers.
The piece is woven in the round, so it has the open shape of an umbrella. A special mount could be ordered to display the piece in this manner.
