hsps2: Female Ancestral Shrine Marker "Sunduk".
Sama or Bajau. Sulu Archipelago (possibly Tiwi-Tiwi Islands), Philippines.
Hardwood. H: 56.5" (143.5 cm), W: 13.5" (34.3 cm), D: 2" (5.1 cm).
Standing plank marker, with botanical motifs and a comb like carving at top, reserved for female ancestors.
There is carved Arabic script on the front and back of this piece, with a date: 23/8/1931 (or 7),
which I assume is August 23rd, 1931 (or 7) and therefore the likely date the marker was made.
