In the Patzcar dance there is a Patrón (a European who is the landowner or overseer) and his wife, La Patrona;
who wear masks that are formal and distinctive. These masks are usually painted but occasionally stained.
This is a classic Patrón mask, with swirling carved eyebrows, mustache and chin patch.
This example is carved in hard wood and displays a lot of wear and age on the back.
