Three dimensional carving of a guardian animal resembling a dog or wild boar, but may be a stylized Aso or a combination of more than one of these figures. It appears the piece was cut from the top of a vertical post with the figure facing upwards. The "back" side seems to have the original red tint while the "front" side is more polished from handling.
